When we are on our last legs, it does not mean that we cannot bring joy to others around us.
Patrick Then is a retired 87-year-old schoolteacher, with a limited prognosis due to COPD (Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disease). This leaves him feeling breathless, fatigued and with an impaired speech.
Through the intervention of Dover Park Hospice’s Day Care team, Patrick not only learnt to better cope with his afflictions but was also supported to confidently perform magic tricks which he had picked up along the way! These days, he pays it forward by spreading joy through putting on magic shows for fellow patients facing life-limiting illnesses, staff and visitors to the hospice, even as his days grow shorter.
Patrick’s story is grounded in our firm belief that even in life’s final chapter, every person deserves to live every moment with joy, comfort, and dignity. Without the generous support of donors like yourself, our patients like Patrick may not be able to benefit from Dover Park Hospice’s holistic palliative care, that help create these special moments in their journey in life.

With over 70% of our patients coming from households with a monthly PCHI (per capita household income) below $1,200, your donation is essential in ensuring that no patient is deprived of the care and comfort that they need in life’s final journey.
