Dover Park Hospice Sunflower Charity Gala
Presents

Metamorphosis

Saturday, 17th August 2024, 6:30pm
Grand Ballroom, The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore

The world has undergone unprecedented transformation in recent years, accelerated in part by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the recent move to our new premises at the TTSH Integrated Care Hub (ICH), Dover Park Hospice (DPH) has also transformed the delivery of palliative care for people in the final stages of life, with increased capacity, better integration of care from hospital to hospice, and technological innovations to benefit patients and their caregivers.

We invite you to join our Patron, Dr. Tony Tan and other distinguished guests at our signature Sunflower Charity Gala on Saturday, 17th August 2024 at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The Gala’s theme, Metamorphosis, embodies the evolutionary changes that every one of us go through in life’s journey and reflects the exciting diversity of activities lined-up for an evening to remember.

Since 1992, DPH has alleviated the suffering of more than 12,000 terminally ill patients from all walks of life. These include those afflicted with advanced cancer, end-stage organ failure and advanced dementia among others. More than 70% of our patients are from households with a monthly per capita income of less than $1,200 who depend heavily on the generous support of compassionate donors like you.

Through our signature Sunflower Charity Gala, we hope to raise $1.1 million so that other patients like Mr. Ong Chin Say (whose story is below) can also benefit from DPH’s holistic approach of evidence-based palliative care. As an Institution of a Public Character (IPC), your donation will be eligible for 250% tax deduction.

A story of love and reunion made possible by Dover Park Hospice

At Dover Park Hospice, our “Make-It-Happen” project honours and fulfils the wishes of our patients in various ways before they pass on, from re-connecting them with long-lost family to taking them to places of significance in their lives. This is grounded in our firm belief that even at the end of their lives, every patient deserves Dignity, Personhood and Honour, just like every one of us.

Below is a story of one of our patients, Mr. Ong Chin Say, whose final wish was made possible by the dedication of our people and the generosity of our donors:

Diagnosed with Stage IV Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), our Day Care patient, Mr. Ong Chin Say, has been moving around in a motorised scooter with a portable oxygen concentrator. His final wish was to be reunited with his wife living overseas, whom he has not met for close to 4 years due to the pandemic.

From making travel arrangements for Mr Ong’s wife to visit him in Singapore, to preparing wedding outfits for the both of them, our nurses, social workers and volunteers went out of the way to fulfil his final wishes.

We also arranged a wedding photoshoot at The Gardens by the Bay before ending off their special day with a nice meal at a restaurant. For Mr and Mrs Ong, it was a day that they will never forget.
